After months of listening to our neighbors with lived experiences facing hunger, local partners, and other food banks across the state, we have developed a set of policy priorities in partnership with Feeding Texas that will make a huge difference for our neighbors facing hunger across our community and state.
That’s why we are collectively calling on lawmakers to prioritize the following hunger-ending policy solutions:
Increase funding to rescue surplus produce from Texas growers to help food banks provide nutritious food to their communities.
Maintain access to SNAP for low-income students enrolled in vocational and technical degree programs.
Index the SNAP Vehicle Asset Test to Better Reflect Today’s Car Values, so that families don’t have to make the impossible choice between emergency food benefits and a reliable car for their family
to get to work, daycare, and school.
