Food Day Celebration on Nov. 14
Join us on Saturday, Nov. 14, as we celebrate Food Day, a nationwide event focused on inspiring people to eat real, healthy food and take action to solve food-related problems in their communities. Our Food Day Celebration will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Tarrant Area Food Bank’s Learning Garden located at 3251 Sappington Place in Fort Worth. We are excited to have our friends from Alchemy Pops at the Food Day Celebration. They will share popsicles that were created using local ingredients and produce grown in the Learning Garden. The focus of this year’s Food Day is on greener diets as a way to address environmental and health issues. During the celebration, TAFB staff will conduct a cooking demonstration of a vegetarian dish from the Cooking Matters recipe book. Tarrant Area Food Bank provides Cooking Matters classes throughout the year to teach people how to eat healthy on a limited budget. In addition to the Cooking Matters demonstration, there will also be fun activities including tours of our Learning Garden, a giveaway of vegetable, herb and flower seeds, a photo booth, and a life-size version of the game Jenga.
Food Day is all about helping people create lasting change in their own lives and in their communities. After Food Day, many opportunities are available for you to get involved in our work to improve the health of individuals, families and communities. Food Access Brown Bag Lunch
Thursday, Oct. 22, 12 – 1 p.m.
Tarrant County Public Health hosts a lunchtime discussion on local food access work. The event will focus on the partnership between the Tarrant County Food Policy Council and the Blue Zones Project. The discussion takes place in the Baker and Snow conference rooms at the Marion J. Brooks Building, Tarrant County Public Health, 1101 South Main St., Fort Worth.
Cleburne Food Day
Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Cleburne Area Permaculture Society hosts a celebration focused on food preparation and sustainable organic gardening. The event includes local vendors, seminars, several food preservation demonstrations and a healthful potluck. Learn more.
Film Screening at Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Saturday, Nov. 7, 2 – 3:15 p.m.
The Blue Zones Project presents a free screening of the film “Just Eat It.” The film focuses on the issue of food waste and food rescue and shows the role farmers, retailers, organizations and consumers play in the issue. Learn more.
