Food Drive Holiday Helpers Needed

By Linda Smith
Director of Volunteer Services, Tarrant Area Food Bank

The holiday season is an incredibly busy time of year at Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB).  And it is all good! So many generous people want to support TAFB’s mission to feed those who are hungry in our community. One way that groups and individuals can do this is to conduct food drives and donate the proceeds to TAFB.

The generosity is so overwhelming that it can be challenging for our Receiving Department staff to keep up with all of the donations. That’s where our Food Drive Holiday Helpers come in. Holiday Helpers assist in greeting food donors, unloading and weighing donations, and providing a warm smile, a big thank you, and a receipt to acknowledge donations.

You can volunteer as an individual or invite your family and friends to join you. To register, visit our onsite volunteer opportunity page and select “Food Drive Holiday Helper” from the list. From there, you can select a shift that works for your schedule.

One of our recent volunteers, Stephanie Canfield, brought three generations of her family with her to participate in the Holiday Helper opportunity. Stephanie had this to say about the experience:

“We truly enjoyed our time together and learned so much about our community! It was a pleasure to share in the holiday spirit with the warm staff and generous donors. We are grateful for the service that Tarrant Area Food Bank provides to those in need in our community. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to give back. This experience opened our eyes to the needs of those around us and gave us a better awareness of hunger in our community.”

We hope to have you join us for one of our upcoming Food Drive Holiday Helper volunteer shifts. Thanks for supporting TAFB!
