[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Protein is a vital part of a daily diet, but for those who are food-insecure, it can be too expensive. Here at Tarrant Area Food Bank, we are thankful for the generous partners we have in the food industry who provide donations of fresh produce, dairy, meat and more to help ensure that those in need are able to have a more balanced diet.

Three of our partners, Smithfield, Kroger and Richard Petty Motorsports, are joining together to donate 25,000 pounds of protein – enough for more than 100,000 servings – to TAFB. This food will be distributed to TAFB Partner Agencies serving the hungry across North Texas. This donation comes as part of Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes nationwide tour and in celebration of the NASCAR race weekend Nov. 5-8.

On Friday, Nov. 6, at the Kroger store at 3300 Texas Sage Trail in Fort Worth, Aric Almirola, Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 driver, will share how this Smithfield donation to TAFB will make a difference in the community and why it is important for us to support our neighbors in need. Almirola has partnered with Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes initiative to donate thousands of pounds of protein in recent years. Smithfield is the primary sponsor of the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43 Ford race team.

Since the Helping Hungry Homes initiative was established in 2008, Smithfield has made more than 240 donations to food banks, after-school nutrition programs and natural-disaster relief across the country.

We are thankful to have partners like Smithfield, Kroger and Richard Petty Motorsports who are dedicated to our vision of communities where no one has to go hungry. You can join us in the fight to end hunger by holding a food drivevolunteering or making a monetary donation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
