Company Committed to Community

By Francie Cooper
Director of Community Events, Tarrant Area Food Bank

As part of Tarrant Area Food Bank’s Development Team, I work with individuals, small businesses, civic organizations and large corporations in the fight against hunger. One of the generous hunger fighters I have the pleasure of collaborating with is Trish Jones, senior vice president of community investment at GM Financial.

“As a longtime supporter of Tarrant Area Food Bank, GM Financial is proud to be a part of the efforts to eliminate hunger in our communities. The wide scope of Tarrant Area Food Bank’s work in hunger relief cannot be overstated, as more than 50,000 people across 13 counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area benefit from their services each week,” said Ms. Jones.

GM Financial has a strong philanthropic culture. They believe that character and respect should govern all their actions. They treat others the way they would like to be treated and they lead by example. Their values are reflected in their actions by giving both time and treasure to strengthen the communities where they live and work.

GM Financial supports TAFB through several company-wide initiatives and encourages its staff to participate in community investment projects. All full-time staff receive eight hours of paid time off to volunteer each quarter, and part-time staff are offered four hours each quarter to volunteer.

On July 13, 64 GM Financial interns volunteered their time in Tarrant Area Food Bank’s Distribution Center, sorting and packing food to be distributed to our hungry neighbors. By the end of their shift, they packaged enough food to provide more than 13,900 meals to North Texans in need.

Volunteering is just part of their story. GM Financial is also a generous financial supporter of TAFB. They are the co-presenting sponsor for TAFB’s signature fundraiser, Empty Bowls, which last year raised enough money to supply 1.5 million additional meals to our community. The 2017 event will mark the 14th year that GM Financial has supported TAFB through Empty Bowls.

Ms. Jones shared that “GM Financial and its team members are honored to join Tarrant Area Food Bank as they work to fulfill their vision of a community where no person goes hungry.”

I am grateful to work with companies like GM Financial that understand the great need and take action to make a difference. Two ways you can join us in the fight against hunger are by making a donation to TAFB and volunteering for one of our programs. To learn about giving opportunities, visit our Donate page.
