Help Hungry North Texans Trim the Table this Holiday Season

Holiday traditions often center around food, family, gifts and gratitude. But for many North Texans, their reality is centered around survival. This holiday season, you can help Tarrant Area Food Bank give the gift of hope to those who don’t have enough food to eat by helping to collect items to be distributed to our 270 food assistance partners. For those who enjoy a traditional holiday meal, and for those who prefer a twist, this holiday food drive list contains everything needed to trim the table for a North Texas family:

Appetizers:
  • Canned nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc.)
  • Dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, apricots, etc.)
  • Peanut butter or almond butter (plastic jars)
  • Tuna (canned)
Side Dishes:
  • Canned vegetables such as green beans, corn, asparagus, baked beans, etc.
  • Canned fruits such as fruit cocktail, peaches, pears, etc.
  • Stuffing mix (boxed)
  • Potatoes (boxed)
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Rice
  • Dry beans (any variety)

 

The Essentials:
  • Cream of mushroom soup (low sodium preferred)
  • Cornbread mix
  • Canned ham
  • Oatmeal
  • Granola
  • Cornmeal

A few tips while shopping:
  • Boxed items are more durable than bagged items, which means items in a box are more likely to get to the table intact.
  • Make sure all of the products are in their original packaging with the nutritional label intact.
  • Expiration dates must show.
  • Glass items aren’t accepted so be sure your products are boxed, canned or in plastic.

Food drive donations can be dropped off at your local food pantry. Be sure to call to verify their hours before making a trip. Financial donations are also being accepted to help feed hungry North Texans.
