Record Attendance for Gear Up to End Hunger
Milestone Year
Gear Up to End Hunger is riding high after a milestone year. The annual fundraising event benefiting Tarrant Area Food Bank spun three new elements into gear at this year’s ride. Traditionally, a one-day event, the bike ride added an additional 100k ride on Sunday to include more serious cyclists. A challenge by Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price to complete the 30-mile ride and 100k within 15 percent of her time was accepted by more than 100 cyclists. Another reason to celebrate; the ride saw its attendance nearly double for the first time since the ride began in 2012!
All bike rides started and ended at the Fort Worth Water Gardens Saturday and Sunday. Dedicated Hunger Fighter and cyclist, Mayor Price, attended the event both days. She addressed and rallied riders on Saturday morning before hitting the road on their two mile, 10-mile and 30-mile rides. Upon her return, she individually greeted and conversed with finishers during the after-party. Saturday’s after-party included Alchemy Pops, CycleBar, Dannon, Last Supper BBQ Smokers food truck and Panther Island Brewing.

Hunger Heroes
Last, but certainly not least, Tarrant Area Food Bank would like to thank the real Hunger Heroes of Gear Up to End Hunger. Whether you biked the two-mile course, the 100k, or any course in-between, your registration fee became a donation toward our vision of communities where no one has to go hungry. Every $10 towards registration helps us provide 50 meals to hungry North Texans. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you next year!
