As School Cafeterias Close, TAFB Opens “Virtual” Drive to Alleviate Summer Hunger
What an exciting time of year to be a kid. The weather is heating up, baseball season is in full swing and playgrounds are packed. Summertime should be a carefree time for every kid, but for one of four, they worry about summer hunger.
During the school year, a variety of programs are available for kids who needs breakfast, lunch and snacks. But when cafeterias close for the summer, feeding locations are limited. Some 200,000 kids in our area count on getting nutritious food from a school cafeteria during the day. During the summer, it’s not as easy. That’s why Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) has been working around the clock to ensure that no kid on our watch has to go without food, especially during the difficult summer months.
The Virtual Fight
As cafeterias close for the summer, TAFB is inviting you to open your “virtual” heart to help through our new virtual food drive. Tarrant Area Food Bank supports creative programs that allow families to pick up fresh produce, give children access to nutritious snacks, teach people how to shop healthy on a budget and more. Regardless of the method, TAFB is working hard to find solutions to summer hunger, but we can’t do it without you. Create a virtual food drive at teamtafb.org/beatsummerhunger. You can create your own fundraising page or team fundraising page to feed hungry North Texans.
Stretch the Dollar
When you give through the TAFB Virtual Food Drive, your dollar goes a long way. With your help, we’re able to purchase fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and dairy products at prices much lower than what you can find in stores. For every dollar raised, we can provide food for five meals to hungry children, families and seniors in North Texas.
Making it Easy to Make a Difference
The TAFB Virtual Food Drive gives individuals and groups an opportunity to make a difference in their community. Now anyone can raise funds online to support our mission. When you register, you can use the site’s fundraising tools to send out emails and connect to social media to spread the word about your Virtual Food Drive campaign. You can get started today by visiting our Beat Summer Hunger campaign page and clicking on the “Register” button.
May Madness
Throughout the month of May, we’ll be sharing more about summer hunger and other ways Tarrant Area Food Bank is helping. We hope you’ll join us today by starting your Virtual Food Drive, rallying a team of supporters and spreading the word on social media that you’re partnering with TAFB for such an important initiative.
