TAFB Celebrates National Nutrition Month

By Micheline Hynes

March is a fantastic time to celebrate good health and Tarrant Area Food Bank is joining the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in celebrating National Nutrition Month®, a nutrition education and information campaign making sense of what is sometimes confusing and contradictory information.

This year, TAFB has more reasons than ever to celebrate health and the strength of our community. We recently hosted a Cooking Matters® course in our new Demonstration Kitchen where participants learned skills to help them eat healthy on a budget. We also celebrated several new hunger fighters joining Team TAFB as staff. Dedicated volunteers and community partners have been key to our work to help individuals and families in North Texas thrive. There’s also the newly released Dietary Guidelines for Americans and initiatives across North Texas and around the country aimed at helping people access wholesome food and engage in more physical activity. There’s a lot that we are grateful for and so much more we want to do.

The theme for National Nutrition Month 2016 is “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right,” which encourages everyone to take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives. This month we’ll highlight opportunities to engage with TAFB and the programs offered by Nutrition Services and other teams that help our community enjoy regular, nutritious and delicious meals. So join us by attending a workshop in the TAFB Learning Garden or attend a demonstration, tour, or Cooking Matters course. If you’re an experienced nutritionist or chef, sign up to volunteer for Cooking Matters.

Be sure to check this blog each week for recipes, tips, and more information on how to Savor the Flavor of Eating Right at home and in the community. For more information on National Nutrition Month, visit www.eatright.org/nnm. Follow the conversation: #NationalNutritionMonth.
