Tarrant Area Food Bank Needs Help Feeding Local Kids

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, June 13, 2017 … As cafeterias close across the area, kids who typically get their meals at school now have to find them somewhere else, which is often one of the nearly 300 food assistance locations supplied by Tarrant Area Food Bank. That’s why the organization is appealing to the public to help stock the shelves with products that can be enjoyed by children.

Most-Needed Food Items
  • Canned or Pouched Tuna, Chicken and Ham
  • Peanut Butter in plastic jars (16 ounces or smaller)
  • Mac and Cheese in boxes
  • Breakfast items such as cereal and breakfast bars
  • Fruit Cups
  • Fruit Pouches

“It’s not unusual to see a reduction in food donations during the summer months,” said Bo Soderbergh, executive director, Tarrant Area Food Bank. “Families tend to travel more, college students who collect donations are out of school, and most people don’t know about the need for food donations during the summer months.”

According to the most recent national study conducted by Feeding America, nearly 20 percent of residents in the Metroplex don’t have enough food to eat. Tarrant and Dallas counties rank amongst the top 10 counties nationally for the highest number of hungry residents. The Feeding America study also found that one in four children in our local area don’t have enough food to eat, which is why donations are important year-round.
