North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank Reveal Latest Insights on Food Insecurity in North Texas

A new Feeding America study will show significant increases in the number of children facing hunger in Texas and the DFW Metro area 

DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX, July 24, 2026—North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) will unveil new findings from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study revealing significant increases in food insecurity statewide and across the 25 counties served by the two food banks. The report includes a notable rise in the number of children facing hunger in Texas and the DFW Metro area. 

Media are invited to attend a news conference on July 28th from 9 to 10 a.m. at Tarrant Area Food Bank’s main distribution center where TAFB will present the latest data, discuss the growing need, and answer questions. Interviews will be available following the briefing. 

What: TAFB Media Briefing: Presentation of new Map the Meal Gap data showing substantial increases in food insecurity across Texas and TAFB’s service area.   

The briefing will be followed by a tour of TAFB’s distribution center, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how food is sourced, stored and distributed through the hunger relief network. Interview, photography, and video opportunities will be available.

Additional Media Opportunity: North Texas Food Bank will host a separate briefing later that morning at 11:30 a.m. at Metrocrest Services in Carrollton. The briefing will provide context on food insecurity across NTFB’s 12-county service area.  

Together, the two briefings will offer media a broader view of the hunger relief system, from regional food sourcing and distribution to food access within the community. Interview, photography and video opportunities will be available at both locations.
