Tarrant Area Food Bank Teams Up with HungerMitao to Alleviate Hunger at the 14th Annual Silk Threads Charity Gala
HungerMitao, a partner of the Tarrant Area Food Bank is partnering with Silk Threads at their 14th Annual fashion-centered gala on October 3.

DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX, September 29, 2026—On October 3, the 14th annual Silk Threads Charity Gala(opens in new tab), “The Tapestry of Dreams,” brings fashion, culture, and community together to help fight hunger in North Texas.
Hosted at Hotel Indigo Irving – Las Colinas, the gala will showcase timeless fashion that’s rooted in the artistry of luxury Indian couture. North Texas Food Bank’s affinity group HungerMitao is the gala beneficiary, bringing support to food banks in North Texas. All tickets, sponsorships, silent auction purchases, and contributions made to the event will support North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank as they work to close the hunger gap in North Texas. Tickets are available here(opens in new tab).
It comes at a time when the need is great. Recent data released from Feeding America shows that Texas remains the hungriest state in America and the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area now ranks fourth among metroplexes for the number of people facing hunger. In the 12 counties served by North Texas Food Bank, nearly 800,000 people are unsure of where their next meal will come from, including 1 in 4 children.
This year’s gala will feature pieces by celebrity designer Rohit Verma. His richly textured ensembles feature intricate Zardozi, Aari and Gota Patti handwork, with textiles personally curated from artisan communities. His work has been worn by Bollywood stars, on red carpets and during runway showcases.
The gala is founded by Ruby Bhandari and through their partnership with HungerMitao will provide proceeds to Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) and North Texas Food Bank (NTFB). For each dollar donated to the food banks, they can provide multiple meals to neighbors facing hunger.
“Fashion brings people together, and this Gala gives that connection a greater purpose. Through Silk Threads, we’re proud to celebrate creativity while supporting HungerMitao’s efforts with North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank,” Ruby said. “We hope our guests leave inspired by the runway and by what we can accomplish together for our neighbors facing hunger.”
Launched in 2017, HungerMitao (which means “wipe out hunger” in Hindi) is a volunteer-driven movement mobilizing the Indian American community to support local food banks. It began at NTFB and now spans cities including Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Seattle, New York City, Detroit, and San Diego.
