Empty Bowls Benefiting TAFB Brings New Features in Its 17th Year

News Release | Fort Worth, Texas (April 22, 2019)

Tarrant Area Food Bank’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser returns on Wednesday, May 1 with new restaurants, art demonstrations and more. The event takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. Tickets are now on sale at tafb.org.

With each ticket purchase, guests can select a bowl handcrafted by local artists and sample soups, desserts and other small bites from local restaurants and chefs. New restaurants include Snooze an A.M. Eatery, Righteous Foods and several others. Many Fort Worth favorites are also returning. View the full list on the event page at tafb.org.

Every general admission ticket helps provide access to more than 300 meals for people facing hunger. “Fighting hunger is critical in our local area because one out of every six of our neighbors experiences uncertainty about where their next meal will come from,” said Bo Soderbergh, executive director of Tarrant Area Food Bank. “Empty Bowls guests are helping us achieve our vision of communities where no one has to go hungry.”

New to the event this year is the Empty Bowls Farmers Market highlighting Tarrant Area Food Bank’s work to distribute fresh produce. Guests will also be able to watch live art demonstrations, bid in a 70-item silent auction, and enter a raffle for a University Parks Village shopping spree and more.

In addition to the bowl included with admission, art lovers can purchase handcrafted bowls by well-known local artists and “Art from the Heart” bowls made by local school children, companies and faith-based groups.

“All of the bowls at Empty Bowls serve as a reminder of how each of us can help fill someone else’s bowl,” said Francie Cooper, director of community events for Tarrant Area Food Bank. “Our event committee has worked hard to make this year’s event better than ever to fill as many empty bowls as possible.”

Empty Bowls is being presented by GM Financial and Albertsons/Tom Thumb. View the full list of sponsors on the 2019 event page.
