The government shutdown shined a big light on the issue of hunger. It’s something that can affect any one of us at any time.
Tarrant Area Food Bank has worked with several community partners, including North Texas Food Bank, the Federal Executive Board and DFW International Airport, to provide food to those impacted by the shutdown.
While a tentative deal has been reached to reopen the federal government, the challenges of the shutdown still linger. Both federal employees and contractors may still need help with food as they work to restore normality in their lives. The shutdown has also impacted families receiving help with food through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The federal government is now funded through Feb. 15. If legislators do not finalize a long-term spending bill by then, we could be faced with another shutdown. We stand ready to respond through our network of 270 partner food pantries.

We are here to help everyone who needs food. If you or a loved one are in need of food, here are three ways you can receive assistance.
1. Visit our Find Food map to find a food pantry near you. Be sure to call ahead to find out each pantry’s hours of operation.
2. Download our Mobile Pantry schedule to find out details on the many mobile food pantries taking place throughout the month. Here are a couple coming up soon. Check the bottom of this page for FAQs on visiting a mobile food pantry.

Mobile Food Pantry FAQs
Do I need to register ahead of time? No, you do not need to register ahead of time.
What do I need to bring? It is helpful to bring something to carry your food in just in case bags or boxes are not available.
What should I expect? Mobile food pantries take place outside. Please plan to dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared to possibly stand in line for a period of time.
Can I bring my family with me? You are welcome to bring your family with you to the mobile food pantry.
