TAFB Asks Community to Take Action for Hunger Action Month

This September Feeding America, together with the nationwide network of food banks including Tarrant Area Food Bank, will mobilize across all 50 states in an effort to bring an end to hunger. Hunger Action Month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 41 million Americans, including nearly 13 million children, live in homes where daily meals are not a guarantee, according to the USDA.

In the 13 counties served by Tarrant Area Food Bank, one out of every six people live in a home where daily meals are not a guarantee. That number includes one in four kids who may not have enough to eat.

Tarrant Area Food Bank is rallying together with a variety of local businesses to provide people a variety of ways to defeat hunger (check the online list for updates):

September 1:             Holocron Toy Store, 3613 West Vickery Blvd., Fort Worth, Noon – 4 p.m.

Holocron Toy Store (the all Star Wars store) is hosting the official Hunger Action Month Kick-off event and encouraging the community to drop off canned food donations, make cash donations, have photos taken with Star Wars characters, enter raffles for Star Wars memorabilia, Holocron Toy Store gift cards and more! Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Star Wars costumes. Food and funds will be collected at the Holocron location throughout the month of September.

 September 10 – 14    Renaissance Worthington Hotel, 200 Main Street, Fort Worth

100% of the pumpkin spice cupcake and orange-glazed cinnamon roll from BarWired to be donated to TAFB

September 11:           MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza, 629 Stayton Street, Fort Worth

10% of purchases throughout the day to be donated to TAFB

September 11:           The Referral Resource Guide “Mixer with a Mission”, Bar Louie, 2973 West 7th Street

September 12:           Tarrant County to “Glo Orange”

The following businesses have agreed to turn their lights orange on the evening of September 12 to show their support of Tarrant Area Food Bank in the fight against hunger:

Arlington: Six Flags Over Texas, Skymark Tower (Pinnacle Bank Building)

**Come see the city landscape turn orange! Pick up your orange glo-stick at Chuy’s Tex-Mex, 2401 West 7th Street, Fort Worth (upstairs) beginning at 5 p.m. or meet us at the bridge at 7:30 p.m. to commemorate the moment)

Stop by the hotel for Discovery Happy Hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. and enjoy a refreshing complimentary craft cocktail

September 13:           Pop-up at Pearl Snap Kolaches, 4006 White Settlement Road, Ft. Worth

Fundraiser featuring Chef Manny’s (TAFB executive chef) Sweet Chili-Infused burger, gourmet potato salad and chocolate ganache ice cream made with liquid nitrogen. Tickets are $30 each with $20 of each ticket to be donated to TAFB. Tickets available on Eventbrite.

September 15:           Old Texas Brewing Company, 112 W. Ellison Blvd., Burleson

10% of purchases throughout the day to be donated to TAFB

September 17:           Funkytown Donuts & Drafts, 132 E. 4th Street, Fort Worth, 4 – 6 p.m.

50% of sales from a special TAFB donut and 20% of draft sales to be donated to TAFB

September 18:           Alchemy Pops, 411 South Main Street #109, Fort Worth, 4 – 7 p.m.

20% of purchases from 4 – 7 p.m. to be donated to TAFB

September 19:           Shipping & Receiving Bar, 201 S. Calhoun, Fort Worth, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Make donations to the North Texas Giving Day campaign. The first $45,000 in donations will be matched by Resolute Investment Managers.
